Description: Nestled inside Meck Church, the Grounds Bookstore and Café was founded in 2012. This unique destination seamlessly blends the love of books with the warmth of a coffeeshop, making it a tranquil space for people to come together. Whether you're working, meeting a friend, walking our nature trail, or reading, we have a spot for you to enjoy! Each purchase contributes to supporting worthy global and local missions and Meck ministries, making every visit a meaningful act of kindness that makes a profound difference.
Comments: If I lived on this side of town, I’d go to this church just to hang out here. It’s that well done. The space is huge, with a ground-floor bookstore, an upstairs loft with even more seating, and a sizeable outdoor patio that's great for reading with a view. If you’re looking for a place to work or study and want a guaranteed seat, this is the spot.
It’s inside a church, but the entrance to the café is clearly marked and tucked off to the side, so you won’t accidentally wander into a service. And to take things over the top, they even have a walking trail called the "Meck Trail." Ask the staff where the entrance is. It’s thoughtfully designed with Bible verse signs placed along the path. Most of the trail is lined with trees and covered in gravel, so you get that peaceful outdoors vibe without dealing with mud. Since it’s a church bookstore, most of the books are Christian, which I love as a Christian myself.
The café sells Honeybear Bake Shop pastries, who boast some of the best cinnamon rolls in Charlotte. They also have a solid tea selection, good coffee, and a friendly staff that’s always ready to help. Outlet access is decent. Downstairs is limited, but upstairs there are desks and tables with power strips nearby. Seating is a mix of leather chairs with metal frames, modern café-style chairs, and plenty of four-top tables. It feels like this place was built with intention. Not just a café or bookstore, but a true third place, somewhere you can linger, recharge, and feel welcomed. There’s just so much to like about it.
